Residents to Enjoy the Opening of New Passive Park
Relocation of Bernie Wilson Park
Residents of the City of Hialeah Gardens will soon be able to enjoy a new passive park which is being constructed on NW 97 Avenue between NW 131 Street and NW 133 Street.
The Florida Department of Transportation conducted a Project Development and Environment Study in order to evaluate alternatives for improving overall traffic operation and safety along Okeechobee Road. The recommendation from the PD&E study was an alternative that minimized costs and community disruption to the furthest extent possible. However these improvements resulted in the displacement of most of Bernie Wilson Park with the realignment of NW 103 Street in order to meet the safety and operational improvements associated with the project.
The property on which Bernie Wilson Park is located was therefore purchased by the Florida Department of Transportation from the City with the assurances that the park be relocated to a replacement site that will be equal to the size of Bernie Wilson Park. The new passive park will provide a paved walking trail, playground equipment, benches and the same recreational uses.
The existing Bernie Wilson Park located at 10300 NW 87 Avenue will not be closed until the new passive park site is completed and opened to the public.
