Mayor
Yioset De La Cruz

Mayor Yioset De La Cruz was born March 1, 1973 in Havana, Cuba.
He lived in Cuba until the age of seven. In 1980, he moved to
Venezuela living there for three years. Mayor De La Cruz arrived
in Miami in December of 1983, and moved to Hialeah Gardens in 1984
where he still resides with his wife Jenny De La Cruz and their son Joseph.
Mayor De La Cruz attended Miami-Dade Community College and graduated
with an Associate in Arts Degree in Public Speaking and Pre-Law.
In addition, he attended Florida International University and graduated
with a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration and graduated
on May 16, 2004 from the University of Miami Law School receiving
his Juris Doctorate.
In 1996, he was employed with the City of Sweetwater as Parks Director
and in 1998 as Senior Center Director. He was formerly the assistant
to Mayor Raul Martinez at the City of Hialeah in 1999. In July 18,
2000, he was elected as one of the youngest Mayors in the State
of Florida for the City of Hialeah Gardens, and currently he is
the youngest Mayor of Miami-Dade County.
Mayor De La Cruz is currently serving as Chairman of the Intergovernmental
Legislative Policy Committee with the Florida League of Cities. He is also a member of
the Advocacy Committee, the International Relations Committee, the Federal Action
Strike Team (F.A.S.T.) and a voting delegate for the Florida League of Cities.
